Spying On Your Competition
Googles Webmaster Central has many helpful
tools. Combine these tools with google analytics to
analyze what keywords you are ranking for, and how well you rank for them. Then use this data to decide what pages you need to add more content to, or get more backlinks for.
The Google Toolbar has a page rank checker on it. Then when you are on a website, click on the page rank button, and a dropdown menu appears. Click on “backward links” to see page rank 3 or higher backlinks. Use this tool to check out your competitors sites, and then reverse engineer your own site to out rank them. You will also see a “cached snapshot of page” in the dropdown menu of the google PR checker. Notice how the keyword you were searching for is shown bolded and in capitals so you can see it easily. I find this useful to determine a competitors keyword density. If that keyword density works for them, it will likely work for me.
