Search engine optimization might sound difficult, but it is really simple.  With a little research you can quickly get a basic idea of what you need to do to gain the favor of the search engines.  Search engine marketing can also be very complex when you dig deeper into the subject.  There is a lot involved and for a busy business owner there is simply not enough hours in the day to work on your business and promote your website as well.  That is why it is a good idea to hire a professional SEO expert.  Think of it as advertising.  Budget a certain amount of money each month to having your site optimized for the search engines.  On going internet marketing will give you a steady increase in traffic to your website that will translate into more exposure online and increased profits.

As a SEO specialist the first thing I do for you, my client, is identify your needs. I am not going to sell you something you don’t need, and I am not going to take your money if I don’t think I can’t help you.

To get a good idea of where you stand in your marketing plan I get you to fill out a questionnaire. There are over 80 questions that I will need you to answer but don’t worry it isn’t as bad as it sounds. It won’t take you more than 15 minutes.

If you have a website already I will analyze it. This gives us a baseline so once we begin marketing your website online we will be able to see the progress that we have made.

If you don’t have a website that is a good thing. It is best to have a plan in place before your get your website built. If your website is not going to reach your target market then it is just a pretty gimmick to show off with. When I develop a website from scratch I take into account a lot of different factors and these vary from business to business. Some things are the same no matter what your business is, such as your title and meta tags, site map, and website content. I make sure all of those on page factors are optimized so you have the best chance of getting found in the search engines, and I make sure this is all in place before we even begin to work on the design. I’ll be honest, as a search engine marketer design is secondary. I love beautiful websites as much as anyone but in my business what counts is that your potential customers can find you easily when they search online using your keywords. You can still have a pretty site though, thats something I contract out to people who are absolutely brilliant at creating amazing looking designs.

Once your site has been optimized thats when I get to work on getting targeted traffic to your website. I use a wide variety of tactics to do that, but first I concentrate on the basics. We claim your google places page and do the same with yahoo and google. Then I submit your website to the major directories and search engines. After that I begin the process of building web 2.0 properties and creating off site content that links to your website. I have a few other tricks up my sleeve to keep it fresh. There is always something that can be done to improve your search rankings so I just keep plugging away at it. Once the basics are taken care of there are different directions we can go with it.

I then keep you up to date with what I am doing and the kind of results we are getting. It is quite possible that you will see results within days. Depending on the plan you sign up for you will receive progress reports monthly or bimonthly. Sometimes it will take a good 3-4 months to get a good idea of where you stand in search and thats why I recommend signing up for at least that long. I understand that not everyone wants to commit for that long so I give you the option of going month by month to start.
